Tuesday Practices: In the Pool!!!
Our regular practices start tomorrow morning, and we're finally allowed to get in the pool!!! Pool staff report that the water is completely safe for swimming. In fact, it is open to the public right now. However, please be aware that the filter system is still not fully repaired, so the water is somewhat cloudy, and the deep end is a mess (but the water is safe, the chemicals are balanced, and you can see the bottom).
As a recap from Thursday's parents' meeting, we have 3 practice groups. Please read the descriptions and bring your swimmer to the group that seems most appropriate for their current skill/age level. Coaches will communicate with parents and swimmers about final group placement:
- Ripples (Coach Julie):
- Practice is from 9am-10am (M-F) & 7pm-8pm (Tu-We)
- Swimmers in this group are generally 8 and Under
- There is no swimming requirement to be a part of the Ripples. Practices will focus on learning the four competitive strokes and developing the endurance to swim 50 yards without assistance.
- Waves (Coach Andrea & Coach Ashley):
- Practice is from 8:30am-10am (M-F) & 6:30pm-8pm (Tu-We)
- Swimmers in this group are generally 9 to 12
- Swimmers in the Waves should be able to confidently swim 50 yards of each of the four competitive strokes without assistance. However, they do not need to be able to swim breaststroke or butterfly legally. This group will focus on stroke development, starts, turns, and improved endurance.
- Kahunas (Coach Andrea & Coach Ashley)
- Practice is from 7:45am-9:30am (M-F) & 6:30pm-8pm (Tu-We)
- Swimmers in this group are generally 11 to 18
- Swimmers in the Kahunas should be able to confidently swim 200 yards of freestyle without stopping. They should also be legal in all four competitive strokes. This group will focus on endurance as well as technique refinement.
We can't wait to see you tomorrow at the pool! Go Cumberland!!!
