Good morning Currents -

First, thank you all again for a wonderful weekend of swimming - it was so nice to see everyone in the water again! With that being said, it makes sending this email even harder. After very careful consideration of our current situation and exhausting all of our options, we have painfully decided to withdraw the Cumberland Currents from competing in the CASL league for 2021. As of today, there is no definitive date for the re-opening of the Cumberland pool. The Ooltewah Swim Center was so gracious in allowing us to practice at their facility this weekend, but that could not be a long term solution given their schedule and pool needs.

With the condensed season this summer, the best case pool scenario, if nothing went wrong, would be that we would potentially miss over half of our dual meets. This was such a difficult decision, but to be fair to the swimmers, parents, teams, and league - it was unfortunately the right decision to make.

The dual meet season officially kicks off today. We are working with other CASL teams to identify those willing to accept our swimmers for late registration. A list of these teams has already been started and will continue to be updated as more information becomes available over the next couple of days. We are also asking for a transfer waiver - meaning should your swimmer move to another team this summer they can come back to the Currents in 2022 with no penalty attached.

As discussed at the Parent Meeting, we have been working on some additional options based on your input. There was strong feedback from many of you that you would still like to have an informal intra-squad fun team for our kids. We are going to meet with the church leadership very soon to discuss those options! We would love to see that happen for our team once the pool opens up!!

Here are the payment/refund options we have available:

1. Your swimmer does not want to participate on our fun team. We will provide a full refund now for the fees you have paid for your swimmer.
2. Your swimmer chooses to transfer to another team for this summer’s season but still wants to participate on our proposed Cumberland only fun team. (Please email us - we are still determining how to work that out financially)
3. Your swimmer wants to swim on our fun team - your fees would apply toward the practices and "meets." If the Cumberland only fun team is ultimately not able to happen, you would receive a full refund.

Our team is so special, and we are very sorry this had to happen. This decision was nothing short of heartbreaking. Please know that we did all we could to find a way to make this work, but out of respect for all involved a decision had to be made sooner rather than later. We love this team and by no means are we throwing in the towel on getting these kids in the water as a team this summer. Please stay tuned for an upcoming Parents Meeting once we get more solid information regarding the pool and our proposed Fun Team!!
