Practices/Assessments for this week and Inclement Weather
Weather permitting, we will be holding swim assessments (6:00-6:30) and practice (6:30-7:30) tonight and tomorrow night (Monday, 5/15 & Tuesday 5/16). A few things to note:
- The water is currently a chilly 78 degrees. If your child is sensitive to cold water, you may want to wait until next week to get started.
- The pool doesn't officially open until Memorial Day weekend, so there are no chairs on the pool deck. You may want to bring your own.
- The weather is looking questionable with thunderstorms in the forecast for both nights, so information about our inclement weather policy (also available in our parent handbook) is below.
Inclement Weather and Notifications
Safety always comes first, so practice will be canceled when weather conditions require. The pool will be cleared when thunder can be heard from the pool deck, and we will wait 30 minutes after the last sound of thunder before reentering the water. The pool will also be cleared when torrential rains make it impossible to see the bottom of the deep end. That said, we do swim in the rain when pool conditions are otherwise safe.
The coaches and swim team board members will notify families of any cancellation as soon as a decision is made and as long before the scheduled start time as possible. These messages will be posted to our website, sent to the emails on your account, and delivered as phone notifications if you have the Swimtopia app installed and enabled.
