    The Cumberland Currents Misconduct Policy

    Good evening!

I (Ashley) want to express the gratitude, joy, and excitement that the coaches and board share in seeing this team grow over the 2025 season. As our number of swimmers has grown, so has the board and its desire to provide a swim program where every swimmer can grow over our 6 weeks together. This brief and amazing time is of course, not without issues and transitions, and we are in an ever-evolving process to provide what I sincerely believe to be the best swim program in all of CASL.

As our first three weeks have come and gone, I have wanted to provide better clarity and encourage greater conviction for our swimmers and the way they carry themselves in and out of the pool. With that in mind, I want to share the Cumberland Currents Misconduct Policy to help families know where and how to address any issues between swimmers on our team.

Misconduct will be handled depending on the degree of severity, intent of malice, and/or age-appropriateness of the behavior. We have categorized misbehavior into three categories: minor, repeated minor, and major offenses. There will inevitably be occasions where disciplinary measures fall between these categories, but they are intended to simplify our approach, keep children safe, and provide guidelines for our coaches and families with the Cumberland Currents swim team so that you, as a parent, can best understand how we will handle these varied offenses.

    Minor: Age-appropriate, non-malicious offenses.

Repeated Minor: Age-appropriate, non-malicious offenses that occur repeatedly and have been addressed previously

Major: Malicious, age-inappropriate offenses that cause significant harm to offended swimmers, including, but not limited to bullying and physical misconduct.

Minor offenses will be handled by coaches directly by having swimmers sprint, sit out for the duration of their practice, or other comparable measures.

Repeated minor and major offenses will necessitate parental involvement and support and could result in a broad range of consequences, including, but not limited to: having a typical practice during a fun practice, being unable to compete in meets, and/or complete removal from the swim team.

We ask parents to support our coaches and board in determining steps with their full cooperation. We ask that if there is a concern about a specific swimmer's behavior it be brought to the attention of a board member or coach to be addressed promptly. We are also asking our Kahunas to agree to the attached Code of Conduct. As older swimmers, and often seasoned veterans, they have a unique responsibility and opportunity to shepherd the next generation of Cumberland Currents.

We have a large, diverse, co-ed team with ages ranging from 4-18 years old. We want to ensure that our most vulnerable members are safe and protected with the support of our swimmers, parents, board, and coaches. If Cumberland is going to continue to be the amazing, thriving program it is today, then we want to ensure issues are taken seriously with a pipeline for appropriate disciplinary discussion and action.

Tomorrow our coaches plan to notify swimmers of our Misconduct Policy in both morning and evening practices. We intend to share this policy at the onset of future seasons and work toward more visibility around our processes and systems behind the scenes. Thank you for your patience and support of our board and coaches! We aim to serve you well now and moving forward.

    Go Currents!!!
